Laundry day

Today I have decided I am going to clear my laundry room as it is really bugging me.(this is a picture of it when it is tidy!)The weather is finally warm enough to get all the washing dry outside and I have a day off to faff about, I do find there is such a lot of faffing where washing is concerned if you intend to complete the cycle of everything aired and returned to cupboards and drawers. My pet hate is washing on radiators and I can't bear to use a tumble drier (too tight) so sunny days are my holy grail,'strip your beds!' is the early morning call of the lesser spotted laundress and I have toyed with (note only toyed) making my own conditioner, etc. having found numerous thrifty blogging sites of homesteading people in the US who seem to make everything themselves, very noble indeedy! just a step too far for me I'm afraid but I love reading about it, just the same with cook books! I've got 'The kitchen Diaries' by Nigel Slater as I love his cookery programmes and adore his house, but have I tried one of the recipes... no! are you the same?

I have been the same ... this year 2012 I've dedicated to Serious Saving so I'm getting more radical (for me) - first time in my life to hang clothes up and quit using the dryer (my laundry room is Huge and I can hang 2 loads within that room). I've thought of making laundry detergent but just haven't gotten there. I definitely have cookbooks I never use, but they're mostly family heirlooms - I love to get recipes from other blogs and try them. Hugs ~ Mary

What a beautiful laundry room! Our laundry room resides in the furnace room, so there isn't much space and it is a dark, frightening place. Also, the giant wooden pole that held up our clothesline came crashing down last summer, so I've got to come up with another solution, especially since we are going to be drying dozens of cloth nappies all the time! But we are far from being able to dry clothes outside yet.
Along the lines of homemade laundry soap, have you ever heard of soap nuts? I haven't tried them but they do sound intriguing.

Hi I did visit I always do - I first visited your shop when it was the tiny one at the end of the street. I was the lady who asked you if you were knitting christmas tress - well thats if it was you in the shop on Saturday. You had lots of lovely stuff as always. Will say hello next time! You recommended the coffee shop across the road saying their scones were the best. Fancy finding my blog such a small world. Debs x
