sSummer Roses

Just look at these beautiful roses, I just wish, wish wish they would grow in my garden! it could be the wind from the sea or the wrong soil, I don't know but when I come to York and see all the gardens bursting with roses it does take me back to a childhood passion for manufacturing rose petal perfume and selling it to all the neighbours, I bet they were glad when we moved! I was thinking as I walked into York today I might try to grow some 'vintage' flowers next year like gladioli and dahlias, the sort everybody used to grow in with their veg patch. In fact on the bus journey to Whitby there is such a veg patch in the village of Stainsacre right by the busstop! It is walled but because the bus is high up you can see right in and check on the progress of all their veg. I've just received Sarah Raven's seed catalogue (quite ambitious for me!) so I think a serious plan is needed-but willl the chickens ,renamed again to Ethel and Edna, eat everything? Tim (still recuperating-boy will I be glad to get that bed out of the lounge!) has made friends with a squirrel  he is so bored and now has several videos of his new friend, (calling him surprisingly 'squirrel' !der) only thing is I think it's the same one that dug up all my bulbs last year so I'm keeping an eye on you my lad!

May your roses grow healthy and strong and, of course, may your new grandchild. Can't wait to hear all about your new gift.
